Be your Best You

(Clip from Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs, via Wingclips.com)

“You do you, Boo.”  It’s an expression that my daughter often uses to encourage people who want to take risks, dress “how they feel”, go out on a limb or do something scarily outside of their comfort zone.  I love this clip from Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs where Sam encourages Flint to be herself.  Flint had allowed the criticisms and feeling of others to alter her true expression of herself.  Sam’s reaction to seeing Flint, true to her nature was; “WOW… you were OK before, but now…you’re BEAUTIFUL!  The REAL you is smart and respectable.  Who wouldn’t want to see that?”

God sees you as the best version of yourself already

God sees you right now as the very best version of yourself.  What is the best version of yourself?  It’s the person He created you to be before the foundations of the earth were laid.  It’s your unique flavor, the best of you added to the best of God.  He created you with your personality, gifts and quirks. When you accept Christ, the Holy Spirit comes in fullness and adds the transforming nature and character of God through the indwelling Holy Spirit.  At Christian Leadership University, we call this your Christ- “I”dentity. (Christ-I) This is the true self that God sees you as already.

Learn a lesson from young David

Remember the story of David and Goliath? David knew who he was even as a 12-year-old kid.  King, Saul, by the world’s measure, was tall, handsome and strong.  Those things should make you a good leader, right? But, inside he was insecure and so fearful of the giant that he didn’t know what to do.  King Saul could only see the natural realities of his predicament.  He was not looking at himself or the circumstance from God’s perspective.

In 1 Samuel 17 we see the story of a key conversation that young David had with the King.

32 David said to Saul, “Let no man’s [a]courage fail because of him (Goliath). Your servant will go out and fight with this Philistine.” 33 Then Saul said to David, “You are not able to go against this Philistine to fight him. For you are [only] a young man and he has been a warrior since his youth.” 34 But David said to Saul, “Your servant was tending his father’s sheep. When a lion or a bear came and took a lamb out of the flock, 35 I went out after it and attacked it and rescued the lamb from its mouth; and when it rose up against me, I seized it by its whiskers and struck and killed it. 36 Your servant has killed both the lion and the bear; and this uncircumcised Philistine will be like one of them, since he has taunted and defied the armies of the living God.” 37 David said, “The Lord who rescued me from the paw of the lion and from the paw of the bear, He will rescue me from the hand of this Philistine.” And Saul said to David, “Go, and may the Lord be with you.” 1 Samuel 17:31-37

David knew that it wasn’t by the strength of his own arm that this giant would be slain. It was God working through him that would accomplish that feat.  God had shown David in his life experience that He was with him, empowering him to take care of the bear and the lion.  David was not trusting in his own strength.  He was trusting in God’s strength working through his young body.

You are a piece of a giant Kingdom puzzle

God created you for this time and season to play your particular role in His Kingdom purposes.  Imagine that God has one gigantic puzzle picturing His Kingdom plans and purposes and each member of the body of Christ is a puzzle piece in that puzzle.   This is a picture of the true spiritual reality.

11 And [His gifts to the church were varied and] He Himself appointed some as apostles [special messengers, representatives], some as prophets [who speak a new message from God to the people], some as evangelists [who spread the good news of salvation], and some as pastors and teachers [to shepherd and guide and instruct], 12 [and He did this] to fully equip and perfect the saints (God’s people) for works of service, to build up the body of Christ [the church]; 13 until we all reach oneness in the faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God, [growing spiritually] to become a mature believer, reaching to the measure of the fullness of Christ [manifesting His spiritual completeness and exercising our spiritual gifts in unity].”

Ephesians 4:11-13 Amplified Bible (AMP)

You being you positions you to play the role God has for you in the Kingdom.  No one can be the puzzle piece God has created you to be other than you.  See yourself the way God sees you by allowing the Holy Spirit to mold you into the best version of you.

Let’s ask Jesus

What would you like to say to the readers about this topic?

“It’s all about what you agree with.  Do you agree with the limiting messages of the world?  Or do you choose to agree with Me?  You are my adopted, beloved, chosen, delivered, unique, special, beautiful, equipped, gifted, treasure.  You may not believe in you, but I believe in YOU!  Choose to agree with Me.

You be you, boo!”
