Saying Yes to God
God’s ideal life for you can only be lived when you say “Yes”
“I believe he comes to Camelot with a purpose, even if he doesn’t know it.” King Arthur said. God has promised a unique plan for you in the bible that goes way beyond what we could ever imagine for ourselves. If you asked Billy Graham when he was a teenager if he could imagine himself leading millions to Christ he probably would have thought you were out of your mind. For those who say yes to God’s plans and purposes, the sky’s the limit to what they can accomplish.
Jeremiah 29:11 (NLT) says: 11 For I know the plans I have for you,” says the Lord. “They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope.” God has a life for you that is good, and hopeful. It’s your best life road. But, you must first say yes.
God chose you first
What God offers us is already ours. We just need to accept the offer. The Lord God could be a puppet master and control our every move, but he gave us free will because He wants us to choose Him back willingly. The offer is already yours because you were chosen by virtue of being born. “The Lord isn’t really being slow about his promise, as some people think. No, he is being patient for your sake. He does not want anyone to be destroyed but wants everyone to repent.” 2 Peter 3:9. “Anyone” is an absolute word. That means that all that are born are chosen. It is not God’s will for anyone to say no. The only question is; will you choose Him back?
Count the cost
King Arthur clarified “What I offer you is not a life of privilege but a life of service.” No where in the Bible does it promise that the Christian life will be easy. Look at the apostle Paul. The ship wrecks, imprisonments and lashings for the gospel would certainly not make the life appealing. Yet, there are over 100 verses in the Bible where God promises to never leave or forsake us, equip, and lead us just like this one: Isaiah 41:10 “Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.”
Resistance often comes from the inside
Did you notice that the guys at the roundtable and Lady Guinevere were not seeing the fit for Lancelot for this purpose and for their group? God’s plans are always bigger than our plans. That’s because if we could do it without God, we would leave God out of it. Well intentioned Christians will tell you that you are not qualified to serve God “that way” or in “that role. Actually, It’s God who qualifies you. It’s not your degree, your years of experience, or your socio-economic status that equips you to serve God in mighty ways. God will use all those things too. It’s God’s opinion on the matter that is the most important. If the Sovereign Lord of lords thinks you are the man or woman for the job, well, who are we to argue. It’s not really you anyway, but the Christ empowered you that God sees when He looks at you. God is omnipresent, so He knows how your life story turns out. Your job is to simply cooperate with Him by faith and walk it out one day at a time.
If you are like me, you can feel unqualified and scared to take on challenges that God asks of you. You may claim your weaknesses as an excuse for not serving the way God has intended. In fact, God loves to show His strength through our weaknesses. The Apostle Paul confirms this truth in 2 Corinthians 12:9, “But He said to me, ‘My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.’ Therefore, I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me.”
Let’s Ask Jesus; what do you have to say about us saying Yes to you.
“This whole concept is summed up in 2 Corinthians 1:20 MSG 20-22 “Whatever God has promised gets stamped with the Yes of Jesus. In him, this is what we preach and pray, the great Amen, God’s Yes and our Yes together, gloriously evident. God affirms us, making us a sure thing in Christ, putting his Yes within us. By his Spirit he has stamped us with his eternal pledge—a sure beginning of what he is destined to complete.”
To say Amen is to agree with My very best for you. I said Yes to you first. You say Yes to Me at salvation and then as you live your life day-by-day, you say; ” Amen, I agree with your best for me one day at a time.” You do this by surrendering your will to Mine and stepping out in faith when I call you to love people and serve. I have a plan unique for you and just like in the movie, you are called to work with others in the body of Christ to live out the tapestry of my glorious plan of redemption on the earth. Oh, it’s good when we say yes together!”
